Blue, turquoise, black, aventurine and grey Sea Globe
Dimensions: H: 10.5cms D: 10.5cms
Clay: Earthenware
Technique: Slip cast
Glaze: Black, blue, turquoise, aventurine, grey and gold
Sculpture / Non Functional
Earthenware Sea Globes are fired many times to create complex glazing designs that have been abstractly inspired by the coastline where I live and work.
This stunning earthenware Sea Globe considers the relationship between the ocean and the coastal rock formations. It has been decorated with a panels of different shades of turquoise and deep blue interacting with panels of smooth glossy black, grey and aventurine glazing that has been feathered using a techniques developed in my studio. The globe has been inspired by the iron rich rock formations that glisten in the morning sun here along the Pembrokeshire coast. Gold detailing has been applied to the rim.
I complete very few Earthenware Sea Globes due to the success rate being low caused by the multiple firings and complex glazing designs. Each piece is unique and designed purely as a sculptural “objet d’art” and is not functional (i.e. should not be used as a vase).
Initialled on the base.
