Just a few of my favourite local places for you to visit within an easy walk or drive from the gallery, just click on the image to find out more information.

Coast saundersfoot

Just a short walk from Blackbird Ceramics gallery, through some old mining tunnels and located on the next bay you can enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner with stunning views over the Carmarthen Bay. Located on Coppet Hall Beach, Coast Saundersfoot is the perfect place to sample some of Wales’ finest produce, whilst enjoying the scenery that inspires my work.

The Grove Narberth

The Grove of Narberth is a privately owned luxury country house hotel nestled in the heart of the rolling Pembrokeshire countryside with stunning views of the Preseli Hills. At the Grove you can be assured of a warm Welsh welcome and a truly relaxing stay in real luxury combined with great food and friendly professional service.

A small selection of my Sea Globes are available to buy from the hotel and can be viewed in the reception area. If you are staying at the Grove the reception team can assist you to reserve a private viewing of my gallery in Saundersfoot ahead of dining at their stunning beachside restaurant, Coast Saundersfoot.

Barafundle Beach

Although it is difficult to pick one beach from another along the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline this is definitely one of the best beaches you can find on these coastal shores.

Park up at Stackpole Quay where you will find a National Trust small cafe and car park and take the short walk along the green fields to this beautiful cove. Perfect for an early morning or late afternoon dip on a summer’s day.

Bosherston Lily ponds

Walk across beautifully maintained low wooden bridges across these stunning ponds bursting with lilies and wildlife only to arrive at what is one of Richard’s favourite beaches, Broadhaven South. From here you can walk to Stackpole and St Govan’s Chapel.

St Brides spa hotel

You can literally swim in the outdoor heated infinity pool at this luxury spa hotel and see the gallery! Perfect spot to stay if you are wanting accommodation right by some of Saundersfoot’s best beaches, and easy access to the centre of the village and harbour. This place has great views from the restaurant and bar as well as a fully equipped spa facility.

Manorbier castle

Romantic castle, beautiful beach for families, walkers and surfers, a village that feels like it has been lost in time with a great cafe (Beach Break Cafe in the centre of the village). Manorbier Castle is a Norman castle located in the most beautiful setting and is well worth a visit.

Loafley Deli, Tenby

If you are staying in self catering accommodation or just visiting Tenby for the day then Loafley is definitely a place to add to your list.

Pick up a beautifully handmade loaf of bread, including delicious sourdough, in addition to a great range of delicatessen produce, coffee and home bakes. There’s a pretty courtyard garden for you to step away from the hustle and bustle of Tenby and relax and enjoy lunch, or morning coffee.

colby gardens

Set in a tranquil secret valley this hidden woodland garden with a rich industrial past is full of surprises. Spring brings carpets of bluebells, crocuses, and daffodils, then swathes of camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas, followed by hydrangeas and the summer wildflowers.

Even a walk through these gardens in winter can be a rewarding experience. From here you can easily walk into the coastal village of Amroth and dip your toes in the sea before exploring the many levels of the gardens.

Tinto

………she wouldn’t forgive me if I didn’t give her a mention on my website, and after all, my favourite place is always when I am with my best friend, Tinto, my beautiful Welsh Terrier. She sometimes helps in the gallery, but never in the studio as she’s too busy day dreaming about the beach, rabbits, and squirrels that preoccupy her thoughts most of the day.

Pembrokeshire is a great place to bring your dog on holiday, there are lots of places to stay and plenty of stunning coastal walks but please be respectful to certain beach restrictions and be a responsible owner at all times.

Penally Abbey HoteL

As you find it today, Penally Abbey is a true labour of love for the Boissevain family. It is home to a candle lit restaurant called Rhosyn, 12 beautiful bedrooms, a happy little spaniel called Maud and acres of wonderful woodlands & gardens.

Located just outside Tenby, and a 10 minute walk from the magical Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, Penally is a place where time slows down and sea views, squishy armchairs and home-cooked food soothe the soul.

Saundersfoot Harbour

Explore the new harbour facilities in Saundersfoot, take a fishing trip or catch yourself a crab from the new decking area.

Between 2019 and 2022 Saundersfoot Harbour has seen a significant amount of investment to create Wales’ International Coastal Centre which is transforming this old mining harbour that used to export Pembrokeshire coal around the world.

Coppet Hall Beach Centre

With ample parking, cafe, watersports centre, toilet facilities and a fine dining restaurant overlooking the Carmarthen Bay, Coppet Hall Beach is a stunning spot to visit on your travels to Pembrokeshire. A short walk through the old mining tunnels and you will find yourself on The Strand where Blackbird Ceramics Gallery is located.

A great place for a day out, fund at the beach, great swimming and paddle boarding alongside easy access to all of the shops, pubs, cafes, restaurants, galleries and amenities neighbouring Saundersfoot has to offer.

Anwnn Restaurant

Annwn is A Welsh food movement that is set out to pay homage to our surroundings and landscapes here in Wales.

The single menu changes during the seasons, shunning food miles in favour of local seasonal and locally foraged produce that showcases Wales wild ecosystems and the incredible quality and diversity of local sustainable producers.

Take a boat to caldey

Caldey Island lies cradled in the magnificent South Pembrokeshire coastline on the western fringes of Wales. It is one of Britain's holy islands.

The Cistercian monks of Caldey continue a tradition which began there in Celtic times. More than a thousand years of prayer and quiet living have made this remote and beautiful island a haven of tranquility and peace.

The monks and islanders are pleased to welcome day-visitors to share the delights of their island home throughout the summer season.

The Old Point & Cafe Mor

Many of you may have experienced the brilliant Cafe Mor when Jonathan had his ‘boat on wheels’ selling amazing lobster rolls above Freshwater West beach. Now the team have taken on a piece of Pembrokeshire history and reopened The Old Point in Angle.

Forgers of seaweed and creators of Barti Rum and seaweed based seasonings and condiments, they are also the proud owners of The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company so you are sure to be very well looked after at their new venture.
