Splash Sea Urn - Turquoise and Gold
Dimensions: H: 15.5cms D: 10cms
Clay: Fine Bone China
Technique: Slip cast, hand thrown
Glaze: Turquoise, multi-coloured and gold
Sculptural / Not Functional
Sea Urns were designed and developed in 2018 in my studio here on the Pembrokeshire coast as a development of Sea Globes.
Made from fine bone china clay, with a hand thrown lid and sculptured fronds with a resemblance to sea anemones, each Sea Urn has a unique style of glazing.
The unique glazing technique inspired by Jackson Pollock uses multi-coloured glazes thrown across the globe and lid and is representative of the fun and frivolity of the British seaside resort using colours inspired by ice-cream, candy floss, deck-chairs, blue skies and sandy beaches whilst combining this with the rugged movement of the ocean.
This Sea Urn has a layering of glazes combined with splash techniques using darker tones as well as some primary colours, creating a unique contrast around the globe. The piece has a sense of movement created by the splattered glazing, and has beautiful gold detailing on the rim of the globe and fronds on the lid.
The piece is initialled on the base.
