Prussian Blue and Rock Strata Sea Globe (Platinum)
Dimensions: H: 10.5cms D: 10.5cms
Clay: Earthenware
Technique: Slip cast
Glaze: Prussian blue, grey, aventurine, platinum
Sculpture / Non Functional
Earthenware Sea Globes are fired many times to create complex glazing designs that have been abstractly inspired by the coastline where I live and work.
This stunning globe inspired by the rock formations here on the Pembrokeshire Coast has been finished with a beautiful Prussian blue glazing fused either side with a seam of aventurine, grey white and platinum strata traversing around the circumference of the globe. The glazing on this piece falls just over three quarters down the globe with the remaining part being a matt transparent glaze. Also listed is its sister globe which is fully glazed with the Prussian blue to the base foot. During the final firing platinum detailing has been applied to the rim and circumference of the globe.
I complete very few Earthenware Sea Globes due to the success rate being low caused by the multiple firings and complex glazing designs. Each piece is unique and designed purely as a sculptural “objet d’art” / fine art ceramic sculpture and is not functional (i.e. should not be used as a vase).
Initialled on the base.
