Deep blue, turquoise, green and gold Sea Globe (No2 of 2)
Dimensions: H: 10.5cms D: 10.5cms
Clay: Earthenware
Technique: Slip cast
Glaze: Deep blue, turquoise, aventurine, green, gold
Sculpture / Non Functional
Earthenware Sea Globes are fired many times to create complex glazing designs that have been abstractly inspired by the coastline where I live and work.
This stunning earthenware Sea Globe divides itself between two ocean tones of deep blue and a mottled soft summer turquoise; whilst onside of the globe the divide is harsh and contrasting, rotating the globe finds the two colours fusing together. With an almost reflective quality mirroring the arching of an old Pembrokeshire oak leaning over the sea, dappled shades of green create a striking seam around the globe.
I complete very few Earthenware Sea Globes due to the success rate being low caused by the multiple firings and complex glazing designs. Each piece is unique and designed purely as a sculptural “objet d’art” and is not functional (i.e. should not be used as a vase).
Initialled on the base.
