Cascading blue, black clay inlay and gold Sea Globe
Dimensions: H: 10.5cms D: 10.5cms
Clay: Earthenware
Technique: Slip cast
Glaze: Cascading blue, black, gold
Sculpture / Non Functional
Earthenware Sea Globes are fired many times to create complex glazing designs that have been abstractly inspired by the coastline where I live and work.
This Sea Globe has been finished with a blue glaze that has been feathered and incorporated with oxides to create a cascading motion falling from the rim that has been detailed with gold. Inlaid with black clay lower down on the globe the movement of the glaze during its firing has pushed this inlay towards the foot of the globe.
I complete very few Earthenware Sea Globes due to the success rate being low caused by the multiple firings and complex glazing designs. Each piece is unique and designed purely as a sculptural “objet d’art” / fine art ceramic sculpture and is not functional (i.e. should not be used as a vase).
Initialled on the base.
